Triathlon Checklist
Triathlon Gear - Your Race Packing List It's almost race day! Here is a handy-dandy triathlon gear packing list so that you have everything you'll need for your race. This list is geared toward the Olympic distance - for Ironman and half-Ironman, I'll prepare another more comprehensive list. Swim Goggles Swim cap Ear plugs Wetsuit Neoprene cap Body Glide (or equivalent) Number belt Heart Rate Monitor Goggle defogger (a.k.a., saliva!) Sunscreen Of this list, the only really necessary items are goggles and a swim cap (usually provided by the race organization). Ear plugs are at your preference. If the water temperature requires it, you will need a wetsuit and possibly an insulating swim cap of some sort. Body Glide, or equivalent cooking oil spray, is used to prevent chafing. If you are wearing a wetsuit, you might as well put your number belt on underneath it. If you wear a HRM, then optionally you can wear it during the swim - it'll be clearly easier if you have on a wetsuit. The best time to put on sunscreen is at least 30 minutes before the race starts so that it can dry thoroughly into your skin. Bike Bike Helmet Bike shoes Bike jersey / tri top Sunglasses Water bottle(s) Nutrition You must wear a helmet while racing. If you have on a one piece tri outfit, then you won't need to change clothes, else, you will don bike shorts and/or a bike jersey or tri top for the bike portion. Carry Gatorade or equivalent calorie-providing drink in your water bottles. Nutrition means GU, Powerbar, etc. Run Running shoes Socks Run hat Number belt Nutrition You may have put socks on for the bike, in which case that item belongs above. The run hat is optional, of course. You may wish to employ speed laces in your running shoes. The number belt, as well, could be in the above list for biking - it's just a matter of when you want to put it on. But you must display your race number in the front by the end of the race, at the finish of the run. Carry GU, Powerbar, etc. as needed to energize during the run. T1/T2 Area Towel(s) All you really need is a single towel to lay down. I've seen people bring buckets with water to wash their feet, but really - not necessary! Just wipe your feet quickly on your towel and get on down the road. |

Great list! I like to remember shorts for the run as well.
